REDES ha suscrito, a invitación de Justicia y Paz, la Declaración conjunta interreligiosa que se ha elaborado en vistas a la celebración, del 21 al 23 de junio en Viena, de la primera Reunión de los Estados Partes del Tratado de Prohibición de las Armas Nucleares (TPAN) y que coordina Faith Communities Concerned about Nuclear Weapons.
Este tratado fue aprobado por ONU en 2017, y entró en vigor en 2021 al estar adheridos ya 50 estados, incluida la Santa Sede. El Tratado representa el primer instrumento multilateral jurídicamente vinculante para el desarme nuclear, donde cada Estado parte se compromete a nunca y bajo ninguna circunstancia desarrollar, ensayar, producir, fabricar, adquirir de cualquier otro modo, poseer o almacenar armas nucleares u otros dispositivos explosivos nucleares.
Con el resto de entidades firmantes, consideramos que la abolición de las armas nucleares es un bien público mundial de primer orden y un paso esencial para promover la seguridad y el bienestar de todos los pueblos. Máxime en el contexto actual, donde la ofensiva de Rusia en Ucrania está generando una compleja y cruel escalada belicista y un retroceso en la contención del gasto militar. La declaración reconoce también el papel de las entidades religiosas en este largo camino de desarme.
En consecuencia, nos hemos sumado también a la petición para que España suscriba el TPAN, al que, al igual que el resto de potencias europeas, nuestro estado aún no está adherido.
